When the court questioned if Timberlake acknowledged the terms of his contract, the singer said, “I would be honoured to,” according to CNN.
Timberlake appeared apologetic as he spoke to media following the hearing. “I try to hold myself to a very high standard for myself — and this was not that,” he told ABC News. “I found myself in a situation in which I could have chosen a different option. But I’ve had some time to think about that.”
He said, “What I’d like to say to everyone watching and listening: even if you’ve had one drink, don’t go behind the wheel of a car. There are so many options. Call a friend and take an Uber.
Justin Timberlake reportedly received a plea agreement after being detained in the Hamptons in June.
According to TMZ, a judge approved the bargain to officially reduce Timberlake’s DWI accusation, leaving him with a traffic infraction. Timberlake, 43, reportedly admitted to Driving While Ability Impaired, which is not a drunk driving offence. The singer is likely to pay a fine of $300 to $500, the exact amount of which will be determined by a court at a hearing on Friday, September 13.
Last month, Timberlake appeared virtually at his arraignment and pleaded not guilty to an amended misdemeanour charge of drunk driving. Timberlake’s licence to drive in New York was suspended, and his attorney withdrew a previously filed motion to dismiss the case.
Timberlake’s legal victory comes three months after Us Weekly reported in June that the pop star was arrested by police in Sag Harbour, New York, for driving while intoxicated. He was then hauled into prison, arraigned, and freed without bond. Timberlake was charged with one DWI count at the time after reportedly passing a stop sign and failing to stay in his lane on the road. (According to documents acquired by CNN, Timberlake told police that he drank “one martini” before getting behind the wheel.)
Timberlake’s Forget Tomorrow World Tour, his first in five years, resumed in Chicago just days after his arrest. During his June 21 show, the musician appeared to address his legal issues onstage.
“It’s been a tough week,” he stated, introducing his song “Selfish,” according to an eyewitness. “I know sometimes I’m hard to love, but you keep on loving me and I love you right back.”
Jessica Biel, Timberlake’s wife, was seen filming in New York City amid the drama. According to several sources, the actress was “extremely upset” by her husband’s controversy.
”She was shocked to hear the news and had no idea as she was working,” an insider exclusively revealed in June. “She was really worried about him.”
One day before his arrest, Timberlake posted rare photographs of his and Biel’s children, Silas, 9, and Phineas, 3, on Instagram in honour of Father’s Day. “My two best gifts. “I learn more about myself every day because you both chose me to be your Daddy,” he captioned the two photos. “I will support you through life’s ups and downs, encouraging you to reach new heights and picking you up when you fall. And, of course, to bombard you with annoying Dad jokes all along the way. I adore you both very much. Thank you for giving me my highest purpose.”
Biel paid tribute to Timberlake and their children on Instagram, captioning the photographs, “You’re so many things to so many people.” But for us, you are THE ROCK. We lean against the rock that we are climbing on. The rock protects us from the sun. And when we recline on you, like we usually do, hopefully our buttocks will keep you grounded and warm indefinitely. “We love you.”
Timberlake and Biel started dating in 2007 and got married in 2012. Since the birth of Silas and Phineas in 2015 and 2020, respectively, the couple has largely kept their children out of the spotlight.
Biel offered fans another rare look of her children on Instagram earlier this year, posting photos of the two adorable in Timberlake’s tour apparel. “It’s a family affair, y’all,” she humorously captioned the photos, which did not reveal her kids’ faces.
